OUR U13, 96 GIRLS ELITE WIN U14 CESA CHALLENGE CUP
The team played two games in a driving rainstorm and freezing cold temperatures winning 5-1 against U14 SCOR from Tennessee Sunday morning before meeting CESA U13 96 Premier in the Final. The girls took an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute from a Raymara Barreto goal. A bit of bad luck on a miss cleared header from the top of their own 18 resulted in an own goal and overtime for the two teams. In overtime the girls picked up their level of play and dominated both periods with numerous scoring opportunities including a breakaway directly from the first period kick off, but were unable to finish the game. On the 8th shooter with the score tied 2-2 in penalty kicks, Katie Leen buried her strike in the lower left corner to earn the team championship hardware.
The team finished the season with 3 tournament championships out of 4, 2 playing up a year in age. The only defeats the team took in age all year were both hard fought 1-0 games against the number one team from Maryland and the number one team out of Virginia. A truly fine season for the 96 Girls Elite! |
